Sansão

In 1982, Sansão (Samson), a pretty and very special kitten from the United States, was given to me. Sansão had brown tones (seal), a gorgeous chin in white color that opened into his bib and then moved in a thin stripe through his belly. And what I considered the cutest thing: small white mittens on each of his paws – he was a seal mitted, and my first Radgoll.

I’ve always loved animals. When I was born, my parents had a white dog (which looked like a Samoyed) called Zuzu. I took care of each pet that got into my life as if he or she were the first and only. Each one was special: Zuzu, the first affection; Álamo the horse, which I used to simply call Rinch; Arisco the little household cat; Fofi the rabbit; Gino the frog; Quequé the teal...

But Sansão was my King, the King of Kings. All the qualities attributed to a typical Ragdoll, to a friend, to the one someone loves, are minimal to describe him... In fact, it would be impossible to express how he was... To talk about his pattern and color is easy; about his more than 22 pounds, spectacular! But... to describe how he could understand everything, the way he used to walk, to sense, to live and to be... There are no words.

In all the times I was sick, he stayed by my feet, guarding me unconditionally. In all the times I was sad, upset, crying, he was there with me, with his friendly purr, with his deep and serene blue glance... In happy times, he was playful and present.

There is not a single person that met him and didn’t fall in love with him... Even people who didn’t like cats fell!!! Friends called and always asked: – How is Sansão???

Well, I could write dozens of books about him and certainly wouldn’t reach what I’d like to express. Those would be too little. On March 15th, 1997, he passed away. For those who love animals like I do, it won’t be necessary to describe what I felt, the way I was deep inside. There were months of silence, pain and sadness.

I was searching like crazy for a Ragdoll kitten less than a year after. In Brazil, nothing!! There weren’t breeders.

My investigations had started: other breeders, competitions, magazines from all around the world, internet... Finally, I wrote TICA (The International Cat Association) and told them my story, also asking them to send me the address of the best and most respected Ragdolls’ catteries of the time, once I wanted another Ragdoll, desperately.

A short time later, I got the reply: a list with about 10 catteries in it. I wrote some of them, always mentioning my experience. I got supporting answers, made lots of friends in my quest, people who understood my love for Sansão, who knew better than I did what a Ragdoll could be and give. In November, 1998, Monty (my so deeply loved blue mitted) got into Brazil from California, home of the Ragdoll.

Supported by cat lovers friends and impelled by my love for that breed, I started taking Monty to Shows, after all I had bought the best: a Show Breeder!! He became Grand Champion and Second Best Blue Mitted Ragdoll in the World, Best of South America... I realized I couldn’t have only one any longer... I needed to give him a companion. I wanted to have my own Ragdoll kitties, to breathe that air. I wanted people who loved cats as I did to get to know the Ragdolls. More than this, people who didn’t like cats to make contact with them, once it’s impossible not to love them. Sansão proved me that as did the ones that came after him.

This is the story of Montana’s Cattery, which mixes itself with my own, as each Ragdoll I have, each Ragdoll that is born here, is a confirmation of what Sansão has shown me, a part of what he has left in me. A wonderful part to be shared with people that love Ragdoll like me and want to be a member of my  Montana's Ragdoll Family!

Each Ragdoll of Montana's is a Small Miracle, a Divine Work of Art!

                                                Thank you, Sansão!

Oh, by the way, my friends call me Aninha*

*which means “Little Ana” in Portuguese
